What is the best way to pack for a holiday?

So this Friday I am heading down to Portsmouth for a week away and I honestly cannot wait! America now seems like it was years ago (even though it was only in May!) and I am looking forward to going somewhere I have never been. Nevertheless I am not someone that enjoys packing, and although it should be an exciting experience, I get so stressed out trying to make sure I have not forgotten something important. Over the years I have picked up a few little things that for sure help me when I am packing and help me remain organised and on top of things, some more ridiculous than others, but if they work then so be it!

For years now their has been a debate over how clothes should be put into a suitcase... folded or rolled? I never thought much of it and didn't think it would make that much of a difference. When I went to Disney however and was going to need a lot of stuff, I was trying to save room in my suitcase and thought I would see if rolling your clothes actually made any difference! Let me tell you, IT WORKS! Let's face it, it doesn't make a massive difference, but it definitely worked in allowing me to put a few extra things into my case that I was struggling to get in before... and it also stops your clothes from creasing just as much. Whenever I pack now, I always try and roll my clothes up when I am packing them away... it does make a difference!

When it comes to actually picking what to pack, I struggle a lot and end up taking way too much. I will always pack essentials first, like underwear, PJ's for example... that way I know they are in and I don't need to worry about them. I get really indecisive when I am picking outfits... and can never make a decision, which then results in me taking far to much stuff with me! To get over this, I will sit and pick things out that can go with several other pieces. For example, a white t-shirt can be paired with jeans, skirts, shorts, so I would pick this over a patterned top, that might only match a certain colour of trousers! It can be time consuming, however when you pack this way, you save yourself so much room in your case (Every little helps).....

If you are like me, then you will know how difficult it can be to ensure you remember everything. Every time I am packing a case, whether it is 2 weeks abroad, or an overnight stay, I will always go online and print of a packing list. Have a look around to find one that suits you and refer to that as you are packing your case, this way you are much less likely to forget anything! You can get lists online that can be personalised too, so no matter what holiday you are planning, you can find a list that is suitable for you!

I will often note down what I have put in my suitcase as I go as it helps me to ensure that I have put things in my case and not forgotten about them. If you are packing several bits and bobs over a few days, then it can be annoying when you have your case all neatly packed but can't remember if you put in that perfect summer dress or killer pair of shoes! Not only does this save you time, but it can also stop you packing duplicates. What do I mean? Well if you are travelling with a friend, then you don't really need 2 pairs of straighteners and 2 hairdryers do you? If you realise you have the same things on your lists, then sort it to ensure you have one each to share, saving you both room a weight in your cases... it's a win win!

Everyone has little tips and tricks that works for them when it comes to packing a suitcase. For me, these work best! There's definitely not a right and wrong way to do it, so if you have anything you would like to add, then leave it in the comments below!

PLEASE NOTE: I WILL BE ON HOLIDAY FROM 26TH AUGUST UNTIL THE 2ND SEPTEMBER, THEREFORE WILL ANSWER COMMENTS AND EMAILS AS SOON AS I CAN!
